I'd double-check the order of your module directives in the conf file - I could be wrong, but I have an idea that modules may be loaded in the order in which they are specified. Although, if you simply edited the example conf files, it should be in the proper order already, so something does seem rather strange... --K -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Wish > me luck! > > --Ian. > A bit more explanation of what's going on: About a week and a half ago, I upgraded the operating system from Ubuntu Intrepid Ibis to Jaunty Jackalope. I had been using Mailman 2.1.9 under Python 2.5.x on the system before the upgrade. Now, I'm running Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope which now packages Python 2.6.x as its default Python interpreter. As a result, it was dying on one of the modules (specific-hashing algorithms purpose modules being deprecated in favor of one unified module). Rather than mucking around and hand-installing ANOTHER version of Mailman (which was giving me fits), I gave up and just installed the packaged one instead (2.1.12). Now that everything is in place, thing should be working again as they should. If anyone has any trouble or sees anything strange, please notify Andy or me know ASAP. This release adds SUSPEND to the set of commands disallowed by the NSSecureAdmins configuration directive for use on Services administrators. A new configuration directive, NoAdminPasswordCheck, has also been added to disable password strength checks when Services administrators use SET PASSWORD or ChanServ REGISTER. (This can be used to avoid multiple global messages for SET PASSWORD when an administrator tries to set a password that is regarded as "too weak". Of course, it's better to educate your administrators on choosing good passwords.) Changes in version 5.1.16 ------------------------- 2009/05/07 Added NoAdminPasswordCheck configuration option to work around extraneous global messages reported by Dionisios K. 2009/05/07 Changed NickServ SUSPEND command to honor NSSecureAdmins option. I'm in the process of attempting to move all the mailing list data from the old install to the new one. It's a patchwork of symlinks in /var/lib/mailman to the old installation's directory as well as to the site's. Archives were also briefly broken. I had a bunch of links in the old install directory, along with another patchwork of links pointing to the site directory which had the actual archives in them. That one just needed me to fix up Apache's config so it points to the actual archives. I was trying to clean up the old install directory so I can be rid of the old program. However, you can't keep an old installation down, apparently... I'm not a huge fan of Mailman and am becoming less of one with every passing minute I work on it. This release fixes several issues kindly reported by Charalampos Pournaris. In particular, using OperServ EXCEPTION MOVE followed by EXCEPTION DEL could cause Services to misbehave or even crash. It should also be noted that using the OperServ JUPE command on Bahamut- based networks was reported to potentially cause Services to be dropped from the network, if the server being juped is two or more hops away from the Services uplink server. This is unfortunately difficult to fix cleanly, as it appears to be due to Bahamut-specific behavior, so those using Bahamut-based IRCDs on their networks should take care when using the JUPE command. Changes in version 5.1.18 ------------------------- 2009/07/11 Fixed a harmless bug in some protocol modules causing unnecessary warnings to be logged at shutdown/restart. Reported by Charalampos Pournaris 2009/07/11 Implemented the OperServ EXCEPTION CLEAR subcommand, which was previously missing. Reported by Charalampos Pournaris 2009/07/11 Fixed improper behavior and potential crash resulting from OperServ EXCEPTION MOVE. Reported by Charalampos Pournaris 2009/06/18 Fixed bug causing "*@*.*" to be improperly allowed as an autokill mask. Reported by Charalampos Pournaris 2009/06/17 Minor documentation cleanup. 2009/06/17 NickServ IDENTIFY no longer writes a log message when a user identifies for a nickname they have already identified for previously. Suggested by Charalampos Pournaris 2009/06/16 Added support for the +S user and channel modes in the Bahamut protocol module. Suggested by Charalampos Pournaris 2009/06/14 Fixed typos in a couple of pseudoclient responses. This release of version 5.0 changes the behavior of the ChanServ DEPROTECT command. Previously, this command would remove channel owner mode (e.g., +q on Unreal) in addition to channel protection mode (+a); however, it was pointed out that this has the potential to be abused by malicious users with sufficient privileges, so the DEPROTECT command now leaves channel owner mode alone. As usual, I recommend upgrading to version 5.1, but if you are continuing to use version 5.0, you may want to consider upgrading to 5.0.64. The website itself will remain online through April 5, 2011 (the point at which I will no longer accept any bug reports, including security issues). Beyond that, it's my intention to keep a copy of the source code on my home page for archival purposes. As Services is licensed under the GPL, you are of course free to save a copy for yourself or post it on the web, and there's always the Wayback Machine (http://web.archive.org/) to get previous versions directly from the archived Services website. --Andrew Church achurch at achurch.org http://achurch.org/ From achurch at achurch.org Fri Oct 2 06:25:10 2009 From: achurch at achurch.org (Andrew Church) Date: Fri, 02 Oct 2009 06:25:10 JST Subject: [IRCServices] Reminder: Services website and mailing listtermination In-Reply-To: <4AC4FE85.1090504@phat.za.net> Message-ID: <4ac51e86.36136@msgid.achurch.org> >Any chance of keeping the mailing list archives online? Services is licensed under the GPL, so anyone who wants to pick up the source code can do so even without contacting me--as many people have done in the past (Magick, Epona/Anope, etc). However, while I'll listen if someone does ask me, at this point in time I have no plans to explicitly pass Services on to anyone else. To be honest, it's my feeling that someone who did want to continue Services would be much better served by starting from the design documentation in the technical manual and rewriting the code from scratch. The current code base is already close to 14 years old, and it's definitely showing its age. (Some of you may recall the flurry of bugs that popped up shortly after the release of 5.1.0; the aging code base was definitely a factor in the appearance of those bugs.) --Andrew Church achurch at achurch.org http://achurch.org/ From tux at solid-ircd.com Thu Oct 1 14:11:40 2009 From: tux at solid-ircd.com (Juan Baez) Date: Thu, 1 Oct 2009 16:11:40 -0500 Subject: [IRCServices] Reminder: Services website andmailing listtermination In-Reply-To: References: <4ac41b6b.50676@msgid.achurch.org><589089779A3F4E0FB8807943E88D923D@chihuahuad1> <4AC4FE85.1090504@phat.za.net> Message-ID: <006901ca42db$c70253d0$5506fb70$@com> I like Nick Gawronski's idea of putting the project on SourceForge (assuming that it isn't there already).
